He is one of the most famous cursed artists of the Parisian bohemian of the 1910s. And his legend is matched only by the rarity of his work. Amedeo Modigliani (born in Italy in 1884–1920), astonishing portrait painter, sculptor in his spare time, friend of Picasso as well as Apollinaire, left behind a mysterious body of work that revolutionized the iconography of women. Modigliani only touched on fauvism, expressionism or cubism, currents that separated the artists of his time. Thus his work, although perfectly consistent with itself, is stylistically or even historically unclassifiable. Regularly, his paintings (particularly the nudes) reach auction records. Modigliani, who lived in poverty, is now one of the most expensive artists in the world.
