Man Ray - Emmanuel Radnitsky (known as Man Ray) was born on August 27, 1890 in Philadelphia and began studying architecture before turning to Art. Very quickly, he frequented avant-garde and Dadaist circles. He meets Marcel Duchamp and befriends him. His early work ranged from painting (Fauvism and Cubism) to photography. Hungry for novelty and originality, he produced his Aérographe (Airbrush, 1917). In 1921, he moved to Paris, where he joined the Dada movement with Duchamp and exhibited his first "readymades". From 1922, he used his radiographic technique (abstract contours of objects) before joining the surrealist movement and making several short films (Sea Stars, 1928). At the same time, he continued his photographic activities (Le Violon d'Ingres, 1924) and devoted himself to painting as well as collage and assemblage activities. Man Ray died in Paris on November 18, 1976. He remains one of the most important artists of the American avant-garde.
