Original lithograph signed by Salvador Dali, produced under his direction in 1985, after his painting The Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory (1952-1954).
Dalí had been very interested in nuclear physics since the first atomic bomb explosions in August 1945, and described the atom as his "favorite food for thought". Recognizing that matter was made up of atoms that did not touch each other, he sought to replicate this in his art of the time, with objects suspended and not interacting with each other.
The painting is currently owned by the Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida. It was transported and exhibited at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne in 2009, along with many other paintings by Dalí in the Liquid Desire exhibition.
